Pay Parking

Information about pay parking in the Australian Capital Territory
 
Commuters can reduce their parking costs by purchasing prepaid long-stay parking tickets for multi-stay areas. Prepaid tickets can be purchased weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, 6 monthly or annually and can save commuters up to 10% over the daily rate.

Other cost effective and environmentally friendly travel options include public transport, cycling, walking or car pooling.

Please remember that leaving your car parked to obtain change for a meter or ticket machine may attract an infringement notice.

 

Ticket parking areas

From March 2014, new parking machines will be installed in the ACT, which will provide additional payment methods for motorists. These new machines will enable payment using coin, credit card and mobile phone. Areas serviced by the new machines include Civic, Woden, Belconnen and Tuggeranong.

Motorists must purchase tickets after parking their car. Read instructions on the ticket machine carefully and always check the ticket details.

Tickets must be displayed face up on the dashboard of vehicles, and must be able to be read from outside the vehicle. Prior to leaving the vehicle, ensure that the ticket is clearly visible from the exterior of the vehicle.

Pay Parking in Civic, Belconnen, Woden and

Tuggeranong Town Centres

Pay parking is currently in place in the City (Civic), Woden (Phillip), Belconnen, Tuggeranong (Greenway), Dickson, Deakin, Griffith (Manuka) and Kingston.  To print or view a map of the four town centre parking locations click on the links below.

You should read the instructions on the meter carefully. Parking signs will also advise the time restriction for the area.

Boomgate Parking

Motorists pay when exiting for the time they occupied the car park. The ACT Government does not operate any car parks controlled by boomgates, but there are several operated by private companies.

 

Time Limit Parking

Parking time limits are displayed on signs within that parking area.

 

Long Stay Parking

Payment is made by using the ticket machine, or purchasing a pre-paid ticket.

Once motorists leave a long stay car park, the car space becomes vacant for further use by other motorists.

 

3 for FREE

The 3 for FREE parking scheme is to encourage commuters travelling to Civic, Belconnen, Woden and Tuggeranong to carpool.  Motorists who carpool and have three or more people in the vehicle at the time of parking may park all day for free in specially designated carparks.  A daily 3 for FREE ticket can be collected from the booth attendant within the designated carpark between 7.30am and 9.00am Monday to Friday.  The 3 for FREE ticket must be displayed face up on the dashboard with the expiry date and vehicle registration number visible from outside the vehicle.  Maps showing the location of 3 for FREE designated carparks in the City, Belconnen, Woden and Tuggeranong, can be found by clicking on the links above

Overnight Parking

If you are planning a night out on the town and you wish to leave your vehicle in an ACT Government pay parking car park overnight, there is an answer to the possible dilemma of receiving a Parking Infringement the next morning.

For peace of mind, drivers now have the option of purchasing a parking ticket for their vehicle for the following morning. Overnight credit for ticket parking is available at Government car parks after normal hours of operation. For more details, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions below:

What is overnight Credit?

Overnight credit allows motorists to purchase a ticket that will be valid for use the following day.

When should you use the service?

Vehicles left overnight and remaining in the carpark during business hours the following day (including Saturday) will require a parking ticket.

How much do tickets cost?

Standard fees apply.

When are tickets available?

Tickets may be purchased for the following day after normal hours of operation.

Where are ticket machines located?

Tickets can be purchased for the following day in all long and short stay pay parking carparks.
