Renewing
your driver licence
Payment details and information on renewing
your driver licence in the Australian Capital Territory.
You will be sent a courtesy reminder about four to six weeks before the
expiry date of your driver licence. However, you do not require this reminder
to renew your licence. A driver licence can be renewed up to three months in advance.
Upon proof of overseas travel a licence can be renewed up to twelve months in advance.
To renew your licence you must attend any
ACT Government Shopfront or the
Civic Driver Licence Service with Proof of Identity and residency
and pay the relevant
licence fee.
You will be required to complete the declaration on a licence renewal form and pass an eye test.
A new photo will be taken for your licence and the licence will be renewed until your next birthday divisible by five.
Full licences and National Heavy Vehicle licences are originally issued to the licensee's
next birthday where the licensee's age is divisible by 5. Thereafter renewals are every 5 years.
Some licensees (such as advanced age drivers) must also submit to medical examinations to
ensure that they are fit and competent to continue driving. For more
information go to the page Medical Conditions.
Requirements
You must apply in person with proof of identity.
