Medical
Conditions
Licence holders are legally required to report
any permanent or long-term illness, injury or
incapacity that may impair their ability to drive
safety to the road transport authority. It is also
a requirement that a licence holders not drive
while their ability to drive safely is impaired by
an illness, injury or the effects of a medical
treatment.
If you suffer from a medical condition and are
unsure if you need to report it, call Canberra Connect
on 13 22 81.
Once you have reported your condition, you may
be required to undertake a medical assessment.
However, this will often be with your own General
Practitioner. At times a driving assessment may be
required, usually only if the doctor recommends
one. For some medical conditions, e.g. heart disease
and epilepsy, the licence holder will usually be
required to undertake annual medical assessment by
each birthday. Medical assessments are valid
for six months from the date of issue.
For further information on the medical
standards regarding each medical condition please
