Heavy Vehicle Licence
Payment details and information on the requirements to obtain a
heavy vehicle licence in the Australian Capital Territory.
A National Heavy vehicle licence is issued to drivers who are qualified to drive heavy rigid,
heavy combination or multi-combination vehicles.
The MAXIMUM permitted blood alcohol concentration when driving a heavy vehicle is below 0.02.
- Applicants for light rigid (LR) and medium rigid (MR) must have had a minimum of 12 months car (C)
class driving experience (only driving experience on a Provisional or Full licence is taken into consideration).
- Applicants for heavy rigid (HR) must had a minimum of 24 months C class driving experience
(only driving experience on a Provisional or Full licence is taken into consideration).
- Applicants for heavy combination (HC) must have had a minimum of 12 months MR or HR class driving experience.
- Applicants for multi-combination (MC) must have had a minimum of 12 months HR or HC class driving experience.
- Applicants must be at least 20 years of age, hold a full Australian car
licence and have held a provisional or full car licence or driver licence
of a higher class for 3 years (or a period totalling at least 3
years). Applicants for an 'M' licence only, must hold a full
Australian motorcycle licence and have held a provisional or full
motorcycle licence for 3 years (or for period totalling at least 3 years).
- Applicants for O, H or T condition are required to undergo a full medical with Health Services Australia (HSA),
a police character check and provide a certificate of good character.
Driver Licence Medicals, Commercial Driver's Health Assessments and Police
Character Checks are valid for six months from the date of issue.
