Health Care Card

Holders of a current Centrelink Health Care Card are entitled to the follow concession:

Registration

If you register your vehicle for less than 12 months, the short term registration surcharge is reduced to $10.00.

Requirements

You must display a current and valid Centrelink Health Care Card displaying an ACT residential address. The concession can only be provided to the card holder. A concession can only apply to one light vehicle registration in the card holder's name.

Pensioners

Holders of a current Centrelink Pension Concession Card are entitled to the following concessions:

Registration - 100%

This means that you do not pay for the registration component but must pay the full fee for Compulsory Third Party Insurance, Road Rescue Fee, Road Safety Contribution and Short Term Registration Surcharge (if applicable).

If you register your vehicle for less than 12 months, the short term registration surcharge is reduced to $10.00.

You must present a current and valid Centrelink Pension Concession Card displaying an ACT residential address. The concession can only be provided to the card holder. A concession can only be applied to one light vehicle registration in the card holder's name.

Licence - 100%

This means that there is no fee payable upon issue or renewal of a Provisional, Full or National Heavy Vehicle Licence. Full fees are payable for Learner, Probationary and Restricted driver licences.

Unemployed

Persons who have been unemployed for six months or more and are receiving Centrelink unemployment benefits are entitled to the following concessions:

Registration

If you register your vehicle for less than 12 months, the short term registration surcharge is reduced to $10.00.

Requirements

You must present a current and valid Centrelink Health Care Card which shows you are receiving New Start Allowance and displaying an ACT residential address. The concession can only be provided to the card holder. The concession can only apply to one light vehicle registration in the card holder's name.

Licence - 50%

You have the option of applying for a one year licence. The fee payable for a one year licence is reduced by 50%. This concession is not applicable for Learner, Probationary and Restricted licences or five year licences.

Requirements

Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA)

Pensioners

Holders of a current DVA Pension Concession Card are entitled to the following concessions:

Registration - 100%

This means that you do not pay for the registration component but must pay the full fee for Compulsory Third Party Insurance, Road Rescue Fee, Road Safety Contribution and Short Term Registration Surcharge (if applicable).

If you register your vehicle for less than 12 months, the short term registration surcharge is reduced to $10.00.

1) consent to the Concession Validation Process; or

2) a letter from DVA confirming the concession entitlement. The letter must be dated no earlier than 14 days before the transaction.

The concession can only be provided to the card holder. A concession can only be applied to one light vehicle registration in the card holder's name.

Licence - 100%

This means that there is no fee payable upon issue or renewal of a Provisional, Full or National Heavy Vehicle Licence. Full fees are payable for Learner, Probationary and Restricted driver licences.

1) consent to the Concession Validation Process; or

2) a letter from DVA confirming the concession entitlement. The letter must be dated no earlier than 14 days before the transaction.

The concession can only be provided to the card holder. A concession can only apply to one light vehicle in the card holder's name.

Licence - 100%

This means that there is no fee payable upon issue or renewal of a Provisional, Full or National Heavy Vehicle Licence. Full fees are payable for Learner, Probationary and Restricted driver licences.

Diplomats and Privileged Personnel

Diplomats and Privileged Personnel are entitled to the following concessions:

Registration - 100%

This means that you do not pay for the registration component but must pay the full fee for Compulsory Third Party Insurance and the Road Safety Contribution.

You must present a current Diplomatic Identity Card and passport. The concession can only be provided to the card holder. A concession can only be applied to one light vehicle registration in the card holder's name.

Licence - 100%

This means that there is no fee payable upon issue or renewal of a Learner, Provisional, Full or National Heavy Vehicle Licence.

Requirements

You must present a current Diplomatic Identity Card and passport. The concession can only be provided to the card holder. The concession can only be applied to the ACT licence of the card holder.

 

Gas / Electric

Gas and electric powered vehicles are entitled to the following concessions:

Registration - 20%

This means that you pay 20% less on the cost of the registration component but must pay the full fee for Compulsory Third Party Insurance, Road Rescue Fee, Road Safety Contribution and Short Term Registration Surcharge (if applicable).

Click here if you are a Senior with a gas or electric powered vehicle.

Requirements

For all gas powered vehicles you must present a passed inspection report from an authorised gas fitter upon establishment of a used vehicle and renewal of registration for all vehicles (if the registration period exceeds 12 months from the date of the last gas inspection).

All electric powered vehicles must be inspected at the Dickson Test Station prior to establishment of initial registration. An electric powered concession is not available on hybrid vehicles.

 

Primary Producers

Primary Producers are entitled to the following concessions:

Registration - 45%

This means that you pay 45% less on the cost of the registration component but must pay the full fee for Compulsory Third Party Insurance, Road Rescue Fee, Road Safety Contribution and Short Term Registration Surcharge (if applicable).

Primary Producers with Gas or Electric Powered Vehicles - 55%

If the registered vehicle is gas or electric powered, this means that you pay 55% less on the cost of the registration component but must pay the full fee for Compulsory Third Party Insurance, Road Rescue Fee, Road Safety Contribution and Short Term Registration Surcharge (if applicable).

Requirements

You must complete a Primary Producer Declaration form which as been certified by a registered tax agent or qualified accountant.

The concession can only be applied to two goods carrying vehicles, one goods carrying or fixed load trailer and one vehicle with a body type of 'tractor'. All vehicles must be equal or less than 4.5 tonne GVM.

All vehicles must be registered for business use.

For all gas powered vehicles you must present a passed inspection report from an authorised gas fitter upon establishment of a used vehicle and upon every renewal or registration (if the registration period exceeds 12 months from the date of the last gas inspection).

All electric powered vehicles must be inspected at the Dickson Test Station prior to establishment of initial registration. An electric powered concession is not available on hybrid vehicles.

 

Seniors

Holders of ACT Seniors Cards are entitled to the following concessions:

Registration - 10%

This means that you pay 10% less on the cost of the registration component but must pay the full fee for Compulsory Third Party Insurance but must pay the full fee for Compulsory Third Party Insurance, Road Rescue Fee, Road Safety Contribution and the Short Term Registration Surcharge (if applicable).

Seniors with Gas or Electric Powered Vehicles - 28%

If the registered vehicle is gas or electric powered, this means that you pay 28% less on the cost of the registration component but must pay the full fee for Compulsory Third Party Insurance, Road Rescue Fee, Road Safety Contribution and the Short Term Registration Surcharge (if applicable).

Requirements

You must present a current and valid ACT Seniors Card. The concession can only be provided to the card holder. A concession can only be applied to one light vehicle registration in the card holder's name.
