The computer system that supports the business of vehicle registration and driver licences in the ACT is
rego.act. It was named rego.act to reflect its web architecture and to align with the colloquial term used by local customers to describe the vehicle registration office ('rego').
Our Mission
The following key business requirements were identified by Urban Services as being essential objectives of
rego.act.:
(a) Improve services to the ACT public and external organisations by providing electronic service delivery for a range of business transactions and services;
(b) Ensure stability and reliability of the motor traffic administration business system;
(c) Provide the opportunity to streamline delivery of "Face of Government" and RTA services and minimise the costs of delivering those services;
(d) Provide on-line access to authorised motor dealers to perform a range of transactions including registering new vehicles;
(e) Provide the Australian Federal Police with 24 hour - 7 day per week access to ACT registration and licensing information;
(f) Provide on-line connection with the National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System
(NEVDIS) to ensure immediate access to interstate vehicle registration and driver licensing information by authorised users;
(g) Improve privacy and security in the process of accessing and exchanging information both within and between jurisdictions;
(h) Time savings realised by both the public and staff in processing information;
(i) Enhance the management of defective vehicles by enabling identification of defective motor vehicles from any jurisdiction;
(j) Provide for an improved photo-licensing system including image storage and retrieval and the opportunities for utilising smartcard technology;
